Amanda provides counseling for children, adolescents, adults, and families. She is currently seeking full licensure as a LPC and her Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential.

Child and Adolescent Counseling (Ages 2-18)

Amanda’s experience with children and adolescents include providing individual therapy to children with ADHD/ADD, ODD, Autism, ED, anger (management), depression, anxiety, grief and loss, behavioral problems, history of trauma, divorce, school issues, incarceration, family/domestic violence, physical abuse, sexual abuse, suicidal ideation, self-harm, and sexual assault. She uses a variety of techniques including play therapy, sand tray, behavioral plans, school and parent consultation, trauma therapy, grief counseling, talk therapy and assessments. Amanda has an educational background, having taught and counseled elementary aged children in the school setting prior to working at West Houston Counseling Center. She works closely, if necessary, with parents, families, teachers, district social workers, and counselors.

 

Counseling for Adults

Amanda has experience working with adult clients regarding parenting, trauma, depression, anxiety, physical abuse, domestic violence, suicidal ideation, sexual abuse, and sexual assault. She provides cognitive behavioral therapy, family systems, and a client-centered approach. Additionally, Amanda works with all parents and guardians with children in child therapy to create a plan outside of the therapy session.

 

Education and Training

Amanda received a Bachelor of Science degree in Teaching and Learning from the University of Houston in 2013 and a Master of Education degree in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling from the University of Houston-Victoria. Prior to obtaining her Master’s degree, she taught in FBISD elementary schools for six years. Her counseling practicum training had an emphasis on counseling children in FBISD schools through individual, guidance, crisis, and group counseling. Her internship training at Fort Bend Women’s Center specialized in individual, crisis intervention, and group counseling for trauma, domestic violence, and sexual abuse survivors of all ages.

 

She currently continues to work with children with an emphasis on play therapy. Amanda is seeking to earn her Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential at the same time as her LPC. She will also receive her EMDR certification this fall. Amanda is also a Volunteer Hospital Accompaniment Response Team member at Fort Bend Women’s Center, and provides trauma-informed crisis intervention for victims of sexual assault when called out to hospitals.
