For today’s teen girls, growing up isn’t just about navigating school, friendships, and emotions—it’s about doing so in a world that’s louder, faster, and more demanding than ever. Between social media comparison, academic pressure, changing social norms, and the aftershocks of a global pandemic, many teen girls feel like they’re constantly under a microscope, yet deeply alone in their struggles.
If you’re a parent, caregiver, or teen yourself reading this, know this: you’re not imagining it. This generation is facing real challenges, and many girls are struggling to find their footing—and their voice—in the midst of it all.

That’s why this summer, West Houston Counseling Center (WHCC) is offering a supportive, skills-based group called “Who Am I?”—created specifically for teen girls ages 13 and up who are ready to connect, grow, and rediscover who they are.
Introducing “Who Am I?” – A Summer Therapy Group for Teen Girls
“Who Am I?” is a 4-week summer therapy group designed to support teen girls in building emotional confidence, setting boundaries, managing social anxiety, and strengthening their sense of identity—all in a compassionate, judgment-free space.
In an age where it’s easy to feel like everyone else has it all figured out, this group reminds girls that it’s okay not to know—and that the process of figuring it out is something they don’t have to do alone.
What Girls Will Learn
Each session is led by a licensed therapist and focuses on essential life and emotional skills that often go untaught—but are deeply needed:
- Assertiveness: Learning to speak up with confidence and respect, even when it feels hard.
- Boundary Setting: Understanding emotional and physical boundaries and how to protect your space.
- Self-Identity: Exploring who they are beyond external labels or expectations.
- Social Anxiety: Tools for facing fear in friendships, school settings, or social gatherings.
- Social Skills: Practice in making conversations, reading cues, and connecting authentically.
Through structured discussion, interactive exercises, and supportive peer interaction, participants gain not just insight—but real tools to take into their everyday lives.
Why This Group Matters for Today’s Generation
Let’s face it—being a teen girl in 2025 can be deeply isolating. There’s more connection than ever, but also more pressure to look, act, and think a certain way. Social media makes it easy to compare and hard to feel “enough.” And when everything feels performative, it can be difficult to even know who you are underneath it all.
The truth is: many girls are asking big, unspoken questions like:
- Who am I, really?
- Why do I feel anxious or like I don’t belong?
- How do I stop people-pleasing and start saying what I need?
This group is a space where those questions are not only welcome but also explored with care.
Girls don’t just need another lecture or a set of rules. They need real conversations, genuine connection, and a place where they can be seen for who they are—messy feelings, awkward silences, brave voices and all.
