Trauma Therapy in Katy, TX

Is Trauma Therapy at WHCC Right for You?

Why do I react so strongly to things that seem small to other people?  Will I ever feel safe or calm in my own body again?  Is it possible to heal without reliving everything that happened?   What’s wrong with me, and why can’t I just move on?  Can I trust my therapist enough to tell them about what I’ve been through?  These are just a few of the questions that we hear at WHCC from our trauma therapy clients on a regular basis.

Trauma can come from many sources—childhood experiences, loss, medical issues, relationships, accidents or chronic stress—and its impact can show up as anxiety, emotional reactivity, numbness, difficulty trusting others and yourself, or feelings stuck in patterns you don’t fully understand.  People tell us regularly that they are exhausted with trying strategies that don’t seem to work.  Whether you have tried therapy before without getting the results you wanted or whether this is your very first time to seek help, we understand that starting the process can feel difficult.  Many people wonder whether counseling can truly be effective for them.

Trauma Therapy Can Help You Reclaim Your Sense of Self

Trauma therapy can help you heal from experiences that have overwhelmed your nervous system and affected how you think, feel, and relate to others.  We work at your pace to help your body and mind feel safer, more grounded, and more in control.  Many people notice that they feel more present, more connected in relationships, and more able to respond rather than react.  The goal is not just symptom relief—it is helping you reclaim your sense of self, restore your inner strength, and create a life that feels meaningful and aligned with who you really are.

Our Therapists Can Help

Our trauma therapists provide a safe, compassionate space where you can begin to understand, process, and heal from painful or overwhelming experiences.  Using evidence-based and holistic approaches, we help you gently work through the emotional, physical, and relational impacts of trauma at your own pace.

Our clinicians know how difficult it can be to start the process of therapy. Many people tell us that it’s hard to know where to begin.  Our counselors are highly trained in a number of different therapy models and have lots of empathy for how difficult creating new patterns can be. We have been helping clients since we opened WHCC in 2013 and have worked with thousands of people like yourself in Katy and the greater west Houston area.

The WHCC Approach to Therapy

At WHCC, we believe in taking a systematic approach to therapy.  We want our clients to know what the treatment plan includes, where you are in the treatment plan, and for clients to leave with skills to make their lives better. We don’t think therapy should be a mystery, but rather a collaboration between the client and the therapist to create a system that actually helps create change.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based, transformative therapy that offers a unique avenue for healing.  Research shows EMDR to be effective for processing traumatic events, reducing anxiety, improving emotional reactivity, increasing resilience, and developing new cognitive insights.  At WHCC we have therapists specifically trained in using EMDR with our clients.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a focused, brain-body therapy that helps access and process trauma, stress, and emotional pain stored beneath conscious awareness.  By identifying specific eye positions—“brain spots”—that correlate with unprocessed experiences, the therapist guides you to mindfully notice, sensations, emotions, and memories that arise while staying grounded and supported. This approach works with the brain’s natural ability to heal, often reaching deeper than talk therapy alone.  Brainspotting is gentle yet powerful, allowing healing to unfold at your own pace while strengthening, nervous system regulation and emotional resilience.

Internal Family Systems (IFS or parts work therapy)

IFS is a powerful, evidence-based model of therapy that helps individuals connect with their inner selves, heal emotional wounds, and cultivate greater self-awareness and compassion.  IFS is based on the premise that each person is made up of multiple “parts,” each with their own thoughts, feelings, and motivations.  These parts often develop in response to past experiences and serve to protect us from pain or harm.  With IFS, individuals can access and integrate these parts in order to achieve harmony, balance, and wholeness.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT is particularly effective as a proven method for managing intense emotions and developing healthy coping mechanisms.  A therapist trained in DBT will help you build resilience, manage impulsivity, and find ways to handle emotional stress.  DBT is an evidence-based therapy that helps clients learn mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Generational Trauma Work

Generational trauma therapy focuses on understanding how painful patterns, beliefs, and emotional wounds can be passed down through families and shape current relationships, coping styles, and self-worth. In this work, we explore family history with curiosity and compassion, helping you recognize what was inherited and what you want to change. Therapy supports you in processing unresolved grief, breaking cycles of anxiety, shame, or emotional disconnection, and developing healthier ways of relating to yourself and others. By healing these deeper roots, you can create more safety, clarity, and resilience in your life and offer a different legacy of emotional wellness to future generations.

Trouble Finding Time for Therapy?

At WHCC, we have therapists available 7 days a week, starting first sessions as early as 8 am and as late as 8 pm.  Weekend appointments make it easy for you to come in for therapy.  We understand having a busy schedule and we work with you to find times that can work for your schedule.
